Pie of the Week// #1

image

Good Ole Martha. I love having a birthday that falls at the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. This means there are always fresh strawberries to eat and cook with around the same time. Every year, my mom and I make plans to visit a local farm in the mountains where we pick fresh strawberries. We make jam, preserves or freeze them for later use. The best part about strawberry picking day is the inevitable day-of baked good. This might be strawberry layer cake, strawberry cupcakes or even strawberry shortcake. Twice my grandmother used fresh-cut strawberries to bake a strawberry cobbler (yes you heard that right!) and what we later realized was called a strawberry icebox pie.

Fresh strawberries + plain gelatin + sugar and spiced within a inch of its life = A Nana Pie

This recipe from Martha Stewart looks delicious, tastes pretty close, and makes me want to plan this years’ Pick Day.
